1914: The Brown Bomber, heavyweight boxer Joe Louis is born in Lexington, AL.

1964: Stephen Colbert, TV host of The Colbert Report, is born in Washington, D.C.

1990: George Stallings becomes the first African-American bishop in the Catholic Church. Stallings broke with the Catholic Church in 1989, citing its failures to meet the needs of Black Catholics.
